Jonah's Ride

From Moby Dick, chapter 9 (The Sermon): “With this sin of disobedience in him, Jonah still further flouts at God, by seeking to flee from Him. He thinks that a ship made by men will carry him into countries where God does not reign, but only the captains of this earth.”​



Jonah, he sailed hoping God wouldn’t find his sin Out on a ship built by man Well he sailed and sailed but his past it followed him Out on a ship built by man

The rain it fell and with it came the wind It pushed around a ship built by man Jonah he cried to the wild and the raging sea But that ship could not get free

That thirsty whale swam the seas and back again That thirsty whale he kept both his eyes open

For Jonah as he sailed from the tides and trails of man On a ship built by his own hand

Till at last it was time and the whale swallowed Jonah whole Well that ship went down below Yeah that ship went down below
