Well the bones can lie back and dry in their graves While the world trembles above And the moon tells the tide to roll out of the harbor And a little girl loses her gloves

And the chains that you link Fall apart when you think That Abel and Cain were once brothers And the wind lets the shoreline know just what it’s thinking While we’ll just both look at each other

From the fields of green To the oceans of aquamarine I’ll carry this hidden light till it’s seen

Well the tears will all stop and they’ll dry in your eyes While the children all practice their dances And the money’s on black And the horses are lined up The only things to believe in are chances

Yours is the sand Yours is the soil Yours is the wild card that makes the whole hand royal But I plan to get mine when I’m here is this world When I’m here in this world

Yours is the dirt Yours is the clay Yours is the boot that kicks the dogs out of the way But I plan to get mine when I’m here in these days When I’m here in these days

What’s been thrown into the water is washing back again

And the battlefields will all return our dead And the banks will forgive every form of debt Just not yet

Yours is the north Yours is the south Yours is the tongue that shapes the words in my mouth But sometimes it seems like the time has all run out the time has all run out

What’s been thrown into the water is washing back again

And the open hands will all find loaves of bread And the blind will finally see where they’ve been led Just not yet

What’s been thrown into the water is washing back again

And the battlefields will all return our dead And the banks will forgive every form of debt And the open hands will all find loaves of bread And the blind will finally see where they’ve been led And we’ll understand what was written and what we read And the grace of God will walk with us with every step Just not yet

I changed the lyrics of this a little. The original recorded version had the line "I want to be your boyfriend not your boss" which sounded too much like Dylan's line "I want to be your lover, I don't want to be your boss." I sang it as "I do not want this moment to be lost" when I did a solo acoustic version.

Lately I’ve been thinking you’re the best thing that I’ve ever come across And I don’t care what all my friends say Come on now and hold me dear I do not want this moment to be lost And I can’t stand to see you weeping that way

So let me try to be gentle Let me try to be fair Don’t say that you don’t care when I know that you do Let me try to be gentle Gentle with you

Girl it makes me sick to think about the things I went and did to you Where I come from they call that crazy Girl it makes me weak to think about the things I went and put you through My blindness never ceases to amaze me

So let me try to be gentle Let me try to be fair Don’t say that you don’t care when I know that you do Let me try to be gentle Gentle with you

Far away I know is Where I’ve been And I’ll admit that I Forgotten why I ever looked for answers in A foreign place Answers in a foreign place
